About me…
Hey there. I’m Kris McBride and thanks for joining me on this adventure! The dream of launching my own birding company has been with me for a long time and I’m absolutely delighted that this dream has now come to fruition.
Having moved to Brisbane from my homeland of New Zealand back in 1996, I quickly grew to love everything Southeast Queensland had to offer in terms of the landscape, forests, beaches and of course, the birds. I’ve always enjoyed sharing my love of nature with others, leading me to spend a number of years as a scuba diving instructor in both the Whitsundays and the Yasawas, Fiji. In Fiji, I worked with marine biologists on a number of conservation/research projects…if you love bull sharks as much as birds I’ll have a few stories to share :)
I’ve ‘unofficially’ been a bird guide on and off since my early twenties, having volunteered at the Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve in Northern India, Rancho Naturalista in Costa Rica, ‘Guide in the Hide’ at a WWT site in the north-west of the UK and at various sites around Brisbane. While living in England, I also worked on logistics for an international birding travel company for a number of years, giving me a deep appreciation for what makes a great birding experience.
When not guiding, I also work in wildlife management across SEQ, including koala tracking, bird surveys, and fauna rescue on work sites. My training incudes 4WD, First Aid and CPR, snake handling and risk management.
As well as all things birds, I’m passionate about conservation of critical habitats in Australia and thrive on showing others the spectacular wildlife that inhabit our lands. Join me on an adventure and let me show you the incredible birdlife that Australia has to offer.
